Almost exactly after 1 year we arranged another Sicily climbing trip. This time with few more fellow climbers. My lovely girlfriend Sara, Michal as default member of the most of my climbing adventures and his girlfriend Simona + their friends Lada and Andrej and last but not least powerful climbing duo Michal Sukenik and Tomas Voros. After 1 year of climbing I was looking forward to climb basically at the crag when I initially started my climbing journey. Some of routes I climbed only on top rope, this time I was leading for my girlfriend. The weather was also in our favor and we also had a car on our hands so the possibilities were basically limitless. Like the last time we were staying at the El Bahira Climbing Camp near San Vito Lo Capo. We visited multiple sectors and climbed some beautiful routes this trip.
I have climbed multiple routes around 6a and felt very comfortable on all of them, but the peak of the trip was red-point of the 7a route called "The Riddle". The route is 15 meter, with slabby start and risky travers in the middle, all the moves are pretty controlled and overall the route feels more 6c. After Michal climbed it he convinced me that I should at least try the moves on top rope to feel it as he thought I was capable of climbing it without problem. I was little skeptic because most of the routes I climbed that trip were juggy with maybe few harder spots. So I did some moves on top rope and next day decided to climb. Thanks to Michal I had the beta pretty much figured after I watched him climb and with his incredible support I redpointed it the next day :)
Michal S. and Tomas V. the duo I mentioned earlier had plan to climb Monte Monaco, the 532 meters high mountain face near San Vito Lo Capo with multiple multi-pitch routes. I don't remember exactly which route they were aiming for (I think it was around 7a). For me that was unreal as I never even tried multi-pitch climbing before but I was intrigued nevertheless. As the trip progressed and they talk about it, in the end they decide not to go and will probably come back later. From then me and Michal started talking about it...
The rest of the trip was fun, it was pretty much climbing all day, come back to camp eat, sleep and repeat. Classic Sicilian pizza and wine as dinner few times with climber talk all around I have really felt incredible there.
As I am typing up this blog, looking at the Monte Monaco and reliving the memories maybe we should plan part 3 of this uncompleted trilogy...
